Sarah Dzerkacz graduated Cum Laude from University of Massachusetts Lowell with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Nutrition. Her great love for mission trips began in college when she traveled to help the poor in Appalachia with home repair. She also began teaching Religious Education at her parish, and these experiences led her to understand God was calling her to a different vocation than being a physical therapist.
Sarah went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Theology and Christian Ministry with a specialization in Catechetics from Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. She then began her teaching career at St. Peter-Marian Jr.-Sr. High School, where she taught Theology for 13 years. Sarah recently went on a mission trip to Haiti with the non-profit group Haitian Outreach, and with the organization helped create 350 backpacks for children in Haiti to attend school through their sponsorship program.
Sarah grew up in Fitchburg, attended St. Bernard’s Elementary and High School, and is a lecturer and Eucharistic Minister at St. Bernard’s Parish.
When not in school, you can find Sarah planting flowers, gardening, or reading a good book on the porch swing. Sarah has a Youth Ministry Certification, loves retreats, most recently creating a Confirmation Retreat and has participated in A.C.T.S Missions Retreats, and has been an RCIA Team Member. Sarah received the Honors Fellowship Scholarship, the UMass Lowell Community Service Individual Effort of the Year Award, the Freshmen Honor Society Alpha Lambda Delta Membership, and was awarded the St. Bernard’s High School Theology Department Award.
